Washing Truck Bed With Palmolive

I have some oil/grease stains and stuff in the bed of my truck and I want it completely clean. Is there any bad side to dressing it up with Palmolive and washing it down?

 

I'd use Dawn. It tends to be a little less aggressive and not as bad to wash down the drain (or onto a driveway). No reason you couldn't use Palmolive though.

I don't believe there is any downside. If you get it on your paint, make sure you wax it because it will strip your wax.

 

Noooo don't use Dishsoap to wash your truck!!!!

I wasn't suggesting using dishsoap to wash the truck. OP was just asking about using it on the bed because he had grease and other stains. Dishsoap is perfectly fine for the bed but I threw in the disclaimer that if you get it on the truck body, wax it.

 

Besides taking the wax off, what's wrong with using dish soap on the truck?

 

That's it, it strips the wax. Also, some contain stronger degreasers that might damage the paint but that's unlikely with any household dish soaps that you'd stick your bare hand into.

If I recall, I believe I read a detailing thread where someone started out by washing with a mild dish soap solution to remove all wax build up. Then followed up with the complete detail. I don't know if that's a good way to go or not through, you wouldn't catch me doing it!

 

That, and it's hard on the paint.

 

Larry Joe and Moe made sure they put the truck in the kitchen sink first and then wash it with dish soap.

 

I've heard Purple Power is A good engine degreaser... But if carefully done, it could be good for what you need to do.

Nothing wrong with that. I use dish.soap to clean the bed periodically. I also use it to clean my undercarriage, engine bay, wheels, and tires (Used in conjunction with Westleys bleach white on the tires). I use regular car wash soap on the paint.

 

Purple Power and wesleys bleach white both contain acid and will eat clear coat with a vengeance, Simple Green cleans as well without the acid.

 

but simple green also contain cellosolve which is a very slow drying printing solvent

 

I know...that's why I don't use it on the paint. Only on my tires.

 

Palmolive is the way to go if you want smooth hands.
