Verifiy I have the right dipstick for a 3.4L?

Hello folks, I hope someone here can answer this for me. I tried the search feature first but couldn't find an answer. I realize the tremendous potential for puns and double entrandas with this question, but I'm serious!

I have a 1999 Taco TRD SR5 w/ the 5VZ-FE engine (3400). I had my dipstick replaced by/at Jiffy Lube after they busted the handle and I was hoping someone could verify the proper length of the dipstick for this engine? Mine is 1'5" long from tip to the top of the black gasket.

I'm curious because I just changed my oil myself for the first time on this truck (new house w/gargae = place to work, finally) and after filling it 5.5 qts, (including the filter pre-oil) the oil level just barely registered at the bottom of the stick.

I have heard of issues with other car enthusists (I autocross Miatas) where a dealer supplied an improperly short dipstick resulting in the subsequent overfilling and damage to seals etc. (In that case they gave a 1.6 dipstick for a 1.8 engine.) I'm wondering if Jiffy Lube got the wrong length or is the owners manual just that far off? The oil was from new containers so I'm sure I have an accurate measurement.

i just checked the 4runner (2002) its 1' 7.25" they shorted you bud

 

just checked my 98 taco with 3.4 and its 17 from tip to the rubber ring

I'm going to assume Nayber's 98 has the same one as mine should, but an extra 1.25" would move my oil level right to the full mark... weird. I'm not familiar enough with the nuances of the Taco, but I thought the 98 & 99 were virtually identical.

*Sigh* $64k question now is how much damage has overfilling it for the past year caused?. It looked pretty wet around the oil pan gasket to say the least. How to muck-up an engine for less that $20...

Folks, this is further justification for always doing your own maintenance- as if anyone here needed it.
