Subject line pretty much says it all.

I want to get a set of AT tires/rims. I found a free set of 1st Gen 16" steel rims on CL, score!

I know that a 2nd Gen can fit a 265/75/16 on a 2nd Gen rim, but I have read that the 1st Gen rims have a slightly different backspacing. It is for this reason that I am wondering if my 1st Gen rims with 265/75/16 will fit my stock 2011 4X4 Taco? Any help would be appreciated.

Side Note: I have also read that these rims don't clear the brake calipers for some people on 2nd Gens. I mounted one of the rims on my truck to see and it
did clear the caliper, barely. It was so close that I feel that I should maybe get a spacer, in case the rim flexes under load/bumps/turns etc.

    Thanks

Thanks, that is what I wanted to hear. I'll post a picture when I get them. I sanded and painted the rims today, they were a little rusty.

I am looking for a little bit of guidance from the TW crowd on this. I have my tires mounted up and everything fits, barely. (16" 1st gen steelies on a 2nd gen 4x4)

-I could get a 1/4" spacer, but that would push my tires more outboard and they are already more outboard than stock because of the 1st gen rims. My concern here is if the suspension is compressed to the bump stop, would the tire damage the fender? As it is sits with the 265/75/16, if the tire traveled straight up it would hit the folded over edge of the fender, not go into the "pocket" under the fender

    - I could grind down the caliper. The things looks beefy, but I would rather not do this. It would take such a small amount though.

-I could do nothing. The rims spins freely when jacked up and there is no contact. I can fit about three sheets of paper in between with the weight of the truck on the rim. It is possible there is more than clearance than the three pieces of paper indicate, I just can't curve them in.

Any thoughts would be appreciated and I can post some pictures if that would help.

Here are some pictures. Might not be of any help. I can't get a picture of the clearance. Thanks

you will be fine. just leave everything as is. if the wheels spin freely, it's never going to come in contact to the calipers. the IFS will make the wheel travel in like / and \, not straight up.

Thanks SCS. I put a layer of Gorilla Tape on the caliper, re-installed the wheel and gave it a spin. The tape was scraped off by the wheel.

That was just too close for comfort for me. I would bet it would not be a problem, but I didn't want to risk it.

So, I ran to NAPA and got 1/4" aluminum wheel spacers. They fit very well and I have only driven about 2 miles but am pleased with the results. I did not, but would suggest, that if you go this route you oil/grease the spacers so that you do not get any corrosion issues with the dissimilar metals in contact.

The spacers were $25/pair, NAPA part# 735-4953. I got them for front and rear to keep the track width the same, I think I would be fine without them on the rear however. Only one of the 10 or so NAPAs near me had these in stock, so call ahead.

I was told that these would work as well and are cheaper, I was just impatient (scroll to the bottom of the page) While using the spacers I got about 4 turn of the lug nuts by hand and then another 3/4 to 1 turn with the wrench on them. I feel good about the lugs having plenty of thread to grab, use your own judgment. If you can find a 3/16" spacer, that would be fine for clearance, maybe even a 1/8".

What's different about these spacers than spydertrax that make them so cheap?

the OP is referring to spacers and spidertax are "wheel adapters". there's a big difference, but most people refer to spidertrax as spacers which can confuse people.
