I've run both of these in some of the most brutal desert conditions imaginable and I like both.

Good stuff guys. I looked on Tire Rack (yes. again and again!) and the Firestone Destination M/T tire is rated by their customers as second only to the BFG M/T KM2 and they both have that aggresive M/T look. In 265/75R16 the BFG's are actually a few dollars LESS than the Firestones.

I have been researching load ratings (C, D, E, and so forth) and the associated "ply rating" and weight capacity. Some say that as the rating goes up the sidewall gets stiffer and ride quality gets poorer when on your run to church with Grandma Sunday Morning. Others say the ride is only stiffer (and the weight capacity greater) if you run the tires to max pressure of 65 PSI for load range D and 80 PSI for load range E.

I can tell you for certain I would never use 80 PSI on a Tacoma hauling a couple hundred pounds of stuff. So if I air the tires to 30 PSI to give some flex will the Mud Terrain tires still shake my filling out going over a tar strip on the road? There is one tire in my radar, the BFG MT KM2 in 255/70R16/C that has a load range C rating, but it is same height as my stock tires and I'm looking for another inch in heigth, so the 265/75R16/D is looking like a winner on my 16 x 8 Wheels on a stock suspension second gen Tacome 4x4.

Unless you plan on getting into some crazy sharp rocks, Load Range C is just fine. Even then, a sharp enough rock will still puncture an E Load.

From personal experience E's are just too heavy duty of a tire for our light weight trucks
