Still new to my Tacoma, only had it about a month and I'm coming from a manual tranny car. So maybe i'm just not used to an auto tranny but as the title states my truck shifts really hard when I first put it into gear, both drive and reverse. Makes the truck jump/lurch pretty good. Do all the auto tacomas do this? I've tried searching but haven't had much luck finding an exact thread on this.

Mine seems to pull quite a bit if trying to shift it right when starting it. Try starting it and letting it idle for a bit so that way the RPM's drop so that way there aren't as many RPM's trying to move the truck.

No noises out of mine, just the hard/lurching shifts. Haven't tried out 4lo yet. Sounds awesome! haha.

More noticeable positive engagement in the transmission is one of the first things I noticed in my '12. It definitely shifts harder than my '07 did. The smooth shifting in cars is really just for comfort. The less slip you have, the better it is for your transmission. Think of positive engagement as reassurance of transmission longevity.
