It's the end of August. You'll see good discounts in the stores.

I am looking at getting into road bikes. I mountain bike a lot so I am thinking about trying road also. I checked with one of my LBS and they had a trek 1.1 for $500. Was wondering if that was a good price. It's the correct size and everything. Just wondering if it's a good deal.

Picked up a new bike on Monday from a LBS, a Scott Speedster S40. Went on my first ride this afternoon, took it 25 miles. Kept it short as I didn't want to get home too late. It rides awesome. Going from a department store "mountain" bike, to this proper road bike, is like night and day. Words do it no justice when trying to compare what I was riding to what I am now riding. 25 miles down, hopefully hundreds to thousands in the future.

Here is a pic of the bike off the web.

Nice looking Scott. I test rode their entry level carbon bike and it was smooth. It had the Tiagra components group which felt a little less solid than the 105 groupset but it still shifted nicely.

Anyone know anything about a cannondale r700? Found a nice condition used one in the right size but really don't know what its worth especially since its 6 years old.

So I bought that Cannondale R700. Really nice condition for 6 years old, it was barely ridden and has several upgrades:D.

Anyway can anyone recommend a Cateye? There are so many models but all I want is speed distance and time...don't know if I care if it is wireless or not.

Also how about a set of pedals I looked at one that is both clip and clipless I think that may be the way to go. Any disadvantage other than weight?

It really depends on how much you want to spend but I prefer to keep it simple. Cadence isn't really important to me either is a heart rate monitor. You have to determine if you would use those functions. Wireless is definitely the way to go. If you want to spend a little more the Garmin Edge 200 is a nice computer.

I run the speedplays but they take some getting used to. I don't know anything different road bike wise. The only other pedal I have run is the Shimano mtb clipless.

Computer - Cat Eye Strada Limited Edition Wireless in red. Pedals - Egg Beater ..............

Pedals aren't exactly road specific but I don't care, they are super light and looked like they belonged and were not crazy priced like equal weight road parts are.

I just installed my Italian Road Bike Mirror. It is worth every penny. If you ride in traffic it is a must.

I think I like it. I have a 2009 Allez Sport. Nothing but frame/fork/shifters are stock. Carboned up, lightened up everything else as much as was reasonable for an aluminum frame bike. Got it from 21.5 down to 17.5. Post up pics of yours. Here's a few more of mine............

Here's a pic before egg beaters/cat eye with stupid red hoods and the italian rear view that I took off because I make a point NOT to ride in traffic. There happen to be good alternatives to that crapshoot with your life in my area so only time in the road is on big organized rides, otherwise there are several places I can do 50 mile rides without dealing with traffic at all.

I had the one on the left in the pic below and I found it more hazardous to try to see out of it than to not use it..............

To me it just had too small of a viewing area and it was hard to adjust it any due to being wrapped up under the bar tape. On a completely superficial note, it made the bar look like a horse leg with hoof. Just wasn't functional for me so I took it off. Anyone interested in one can PM me for a good deal on it.
