    Stock for now.
Well common sense says to determine the difference between the OE shifter to the short shifter and subtract that.

I.e. short shifter = 1.5" shorter? Get a boot that's 1.5" shorter to stay proportionate to the OE boot.

Remember, Toyota puts a 300% markup on spare parts, then the dealer adds 30-40% retail markup.

OP, how much did your custom boot come to?

Wild: Yeah, it's expensive. I hear "someone" does mods to the factory shifter to make them "better," but I'm interested in a mod I know will last the life of the vehicle and not cause harm (*cough*URD*cough*) :D

I have not ordered the new boot. yet I have a bunch of tuscany midnight leather left over from the leather seats i ordered so i am gonna order a bunch of stuff from redline when i do and sell the other parts. just waiting on some money to flow in before ordering the stuff.

The short shifter by the way was one of the best investments i made in the drivability of the truck. It makes all the difference in the world for just day to day driving. and its not just a spacer and extension like the URD its a whole new shifter. I strongly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one

My 2012 TRD Sport actually came with this option, and so far it has been great -- granted, I wasn't able to compare the "before and after" with my Tacoma because it came with it, but it is one of the easiest shifting manual transmissions I've ever driven on a truck (and I've owned a few manual trans Toyota trucks).

Was unaware the TRD shifter is actually different height. Is it? A plate adapter style will raise the sifter, but in this case short shouldn't mean the height just the throw of each gear shift. It definitely wouldn't be physically shorter in any case, but longer.

its almost the same overall height. it just moves the pivot point. but the shifter does not move as far back and forth so the longer boot is not necessary and i do not like the lips that it has stock either

Well, it's been compared to rowing a boat, and I frequently put my passengers in a corner by sucker-punching their knee when going into 5th or smacking drinks out of their hands while going into 4th....
