Long story short i wired them at one ohm on my audiopipe 3000d with gains turned all the way down and the amp didnt like my voltage so it clipped one hard time which i think disconnected the cone from spider but then i rewired them to a four ohm load and put each one on each side of the amp bc the amp is simply two 1500d's strapped together and they played for about two minutes before i started to smell them and the gains were about 1/4 up which should have given the subs 4-500 watts each so idk i think i hurt them when the amp clipped at one ohm but not sure.......lesson learned it just su ks i have to wait for jacob to send me recones now!!

About 15/35 just enough to make them move at as close to zero gain as possible like i said before im pretty sure i separated the cone when the sub kicked to protection in the first place it was pretty intense i was pissed!

Something is weird here. Just enough to make them move and the coils smoked? That sounds like something wasn't quite right.

Sure you didn't wire one of the voice coils out of phase on each sub?

PS: What are the specs on the box?

I metered the subs at 1.1 ohms originally then rewired and each sub was at 3.6 ohms so wiring was not an issue and polarity was correct! Box is 1.6 cubes tuned to 33 hz all edges routered round including both ends of the port...very well built box (birch and laquered)

Ok, I'm not saying this is how it happened....but I'm saying this is how it COULD have happened.

If you wire the voice coils out of phase and then test them with a DMM you'll get the exact same impedance (ohms) that you're shooting for. So things will look right even if they're not. So then we pop that sub into the enclosure and put power on it. One coil pushes and the other pulls. The forces cancel and the sub doesn't move. But it sure as shit heats up.

So then nothing appears to be happening and then you turn it up. And up. And then maybe it starts to do something. If these subs share a common chamber then if you wired only 1 sub incorrectly and the other sub is fine you'll see movement from both cones because the other one is doing all the work and the air pressure makes the other move a little. So then more power to try and get some where and BOOOM...Then it fails.

    I'm not sayin......I'm just sayin.

PS: How much output did you get out of them before the failure? You made it sound like it was before you even did hardly anything at all. Also, one sub or both dead?

Yes i know how polarity works my friend i am no novice at this :D I am not saying it couldnt have happened but i am very careful when i wire my subs and i will know for sure when i pull them out when the recones come. But IF one was wired out of phase then one of them (even though they share the chamber) would have acted differently than the other and i would have noticed! And i did get a good bit of output for the couple minutes after i rewired and played them. Both smoked

Where is your box for these subs? I ask because of the mounting depth is 6 5/8".
