Welcome to TW. No need for the ALL CAPS.

    We need more information like:

    Year of your truck?

    Mileage?

    Auto/Manual?

    What light on the dash?

What are the details on your truck? Year, engine, transmission? It is likely electrical.

opps i use caps at work forgot.02 toyota tacoma std cab, man transmision, motor 2.7 ,200,000 miles on it. The 4 wheel drive light on the dash goes on.The motor will rev up like it went to nuteral. And when iget slowed down i hear a clunk like it is going in 4 Wheel drive. When this happens i pull the shifter into 4 wheel drive.

Does the transfer case shifter seem loose? Like there is a lot of play in it?

So you are in gear and it's like you pushed in the clutch but the clutch is depressed. Have you tried cycling the clutch to see if that seems to help or make a difference. Go slow 4 gear step on the gas and see if the truck revs if so possible bad clutch. Just my 2 cents.

The reving up and going into neutral is the tranfers case shifting. Sounds like maybe the bushing or return spring is screwed up.
