So today I went ahead and put in an order for a 60" 60# Super Kodiak. Originally I was after a PSE Ghost (I know, totally different animal altogether), but I went to Wholesale Sports and the guy behind the counter said "We don't have that but I have something else in the back, hang on." Off he goes and he comes back with a plain box that he painstakingly opens. Then out of it he hands me the SK.

I was sold right then and there. The feel of it was so natural as to defy imagination. I'm used to PSE longbows so this was one hell of a change for me. I'm literally itching to get my grubby little paws on it and send some wood down range.

Just some pictures I ripped off the internet. I'll get some actual ones once it shows up.

Yeah. This thing is $519+taxes. But it really shows in the feel and make of it. Sure there's more expensive bows, and then you can also get into custom bows...but then you're either a total professional who knows his shit and is picky as fuck; or dude has more money than brains and wants to show off. I'm a big fan of spend the extra coin to get something you're not going to out grow for a very long time. Even if it does vamp the learning curve a bit initially.

My boss just bought one recently. He got it from this guy in northern Alberta that hand makes everything right down to the iron smithed tips. Pretty impressive!

Recurves are beautiful, and that one is exceptional. I have a older Browning Nomad II #45. I still use her for bow fishing.

Hope you're comfortable with the #60 draw, a lot of guys overbow themselves in traditional bows and form/accuracy suffers if you're not ready for it - I don't know your background so please don't take this as criticism. That being said, Bear still makes a great bow and I'm sure you'll enjoy it, throw some string silencers and such on her and she will get deadly quiet too :)

Custom bows don't have to be expensive either, there are quite a few trad bowyers out there that still put out a quality product at a reasonable/comparable cost but the wait times on the good ones are pretty much teh suck. All my bows though I have bought used and you can some pretty good deals out there, I'm currently shooting a 62" Bob Lee longbow (3 piece takedown) that scales to #56 at my draw length that I scored off a guy for just $200 :)

Cheers bud, Please post some pics when you get her in your hands :)

Rockclimbing/EMS backround. I've got back and arm muscles to spare so I don't believe I'll have an issue with the 60# pull. I knew it was going to be a lot, but eventually I do want to go hunting with it so I didn't want to buy one then have to buy another to upgrade. From what I've read up on them the 60# pulls like a 45#. Now this is just going off what others have said so I know I need to take that for what it's worth.

I figured I'd buy new the first time so I have a bench mark of what to look for when I start looking used further down the line. :)

I appreciate the straight forward info though. No offense taken. :D

Cool deal man, wish you were closer so we could go out and shoot :)

Don't know if you have shot traditional bows before but there's a really good Trad bowsite that I'm a member of and a lot to learn there, I have learned a TON from those guys and it's helped immensely. I'll shoot you a pm with the site name, bunch'a really good people there :)

I actually have an older Bear recurve and used it quite a lot when I was starting out as I was stepping up in weight to where I'm at now and it's still a great shooter :)

Don't forget to post pics when she comes in :)

You'll love it. I've had 2 Super K's in the past. Sold the last one because I switched to a custom longbow. Here are some pics of the LB.

Lefty huh? Damn sinistral! Nice looking spear chucker though. Love the Grain.

Johnny, I might be making a trip down to the states next year. If I make down to Hurricane ally, I'll shoot you a PM and we can launch some wood down range. Deal?

And thank-you again for the Trad Site. Might appreciated. I've already started spying their mods section for ways to self silence your bow and making rabbit fur tracers for arrows. :D
