A lot of people over the years had the CEL trigger from the locking caps. I'm guessing those were just defective. I got mine about 6 years ago from the dealership and it's never thrown the CEL. We determined back then that they were the same brand.

FYI for anyone considering getting a locking gas cap. The 2nd Gens have used 2 different styles over the years so be sure to get the correct one. I think it switched in 2009 but don't quote me on that. Older ones used the triangle threads, newer ones use normal threads.

You bring up a VERY good point. Over the 17 years I have been in the dealerships, I have repaired countless cars and trucks where a pissed of ex or neighbor, or whatever, decided to give them some extra "additives" to their fuel. The worst ever was a guy who brought his brand new (as in less than 5k miles) Chevy k1500 Silverado in for "cranks but won't start" concern. Inspection quickly revealed (after ruining my fuel pressure gauge) that his GF gave him at LEAST a gallon of bleach additive. Ruined my gauge, and ruined his pump, fuel lines, and injectors.

Tried another pump today, same crap, Was trying to avoid it, BUT looks like i can get to the top of the tank from the side and tear it down this afternoon.
The only other tank I've had out was from my 95 yota and it had the rollover flap at the top of the tank. A little tin flap on a very light spring. I'm betting mine is cattywonkas and needs to be straightened or blow it the hell out....one or the other. Will report back on my findings.

Will also inspect the filler tube as well. Thanks guys.

If I have to, I have to, but I think I can get to it from the side, use my mirror and have a look, hopefully get a screw driver in there to either cajol it back into use or blow it out of the away.

I was able to get the rubber connector hose off both the filler tube and the top of the tank from the rear wheel well. The rollover flap was recessed about 7 or 8 inches and the angle did not allow a straight screwdriver long enough to reach it. So I tried a section of flex tubing from my oil extractor, the larger size did the trick and pushed the flap back into it's position and it simply worked fine after that. went to filling station and all is well.

Apparently the yanking out of the siphon tube jammed the flap up into its seat just a tad, enuf to jam it. I simply pushed it back in toward the tank and that was that. Really glad I did not have to drop the tank or even remove the wheel well liner, just folded it back... Thanks to everyone for responding.

Really hated to have to mess with such a new rig...so early in the game...after keeping the 95 alive all these years... Its why I bought a new one ):D

My feeling is if someone is determined to steal $20 worth of gas, they can have $20 worth of gas.
If I put a locking cap on it, they're going to TAKE $20 worth of gas, but there's going to be another $60 worth on the ground, and there's going to be a knifed hole in the bottom of my plastic fuel tank.

Thanks, A little contorsion, but not too bad all things considered. From what I see these trucks have lots of room to work compared to lets say my Jetta...
