Hey Fellas, here are some picks of new wheels installed on my 2012 double cab. The rubber is still shiny with whatever they put on them at the tire shop. These are FJ rims and they have 4.5inch backspace, they are 17x7.5. As a result they stick out a little more than the stock setup (5.5inch backspace with 17x7, 265 wide tires) I went with the Cooper Discoverer AT3 275/70r17. The only rubbing I had was on the front flaps when braking and turning at the same time. Without the mudflaps there is no rubbing, though I haven't done any offloading. I'm really happy with how it turned out, more aggressive than stock and I'm hoping for good handling in the snow. Now I need to get a toyota dealership to program for my sensors. I'm planning to do a levelling lift in the next few weeks with 5100's on stock front coils. It came with the 4 leaf pack (Canadian).

Sweet! If I can put in a request, would you mind taking it minor offroading? I would like to know if that setup will still rub even with the mudflaps off.

    If you could, thanks!

I have to agree with OZ-T on the rubbing thing with those tires, they're not huge but at stock height and no trimming it'll rub somewhere. I wouldn't go too crazy until you do your lift and test for rubbing as it's not too hard to tear the mounting holes for your fender flares. I know cause i did it,lol.

It's nice to see another guy from Edmonton on here. I just recently lifted and put 295/65/18's on so if you ever wanna see what I've trimmed let me know. Are you doing the lift yourself?

Nice pics OP! I have the same tires and size. My truck is lifted 2-3 inches, but I have the tiniest amount of rub on my front left tire at full lock. No mudflaps. Anyhow, welcome and nice truck.

Is it the fender flares that will most likely rub? That is what it looks like to me. It looks like the tires come close to rubbing the plastic fender inside the wheel well at about 3/4 wheel turn.
I have at least an inch clearance from the UCA with the wheels cranked one direction (is that what "full lock" means??) because of the 4.5 inch backspacing of the rims vs. 5.5 inch on the stock 17's.

Island Cruiser.....I don't know when I'll get to minor offroading. I've tried to replicate the rubbing that I got with the flaps: braking fairly hard and then turning wheels, no rub. I've done my driveway curb (5 inches?) with wheels turned and a little speed, no rub.

For me, the front of the driver's side tire rubs the plastic fender inside the wheel well at right wheel lock.

My interpretation of "full lock" is the same as yours.

Assuming you will have a bit more rub with compression. I do have stock TRD rims, so our backspacing is different as you mentioned. I've contemplated spacers, but the rub is so small I might just not worry about it. Someday maybe new wheels but I kind of like the TRD sport wheels after I painted them black. I like the look o the tires too much to give them up. Anyways, I digress...

1" lift from 3rd gen suspension, 265/75/16 ATs
I agree as I have a little smaller 265/75/16 AT's on 4.5 bs wheels on stock suspension and I had to loose front mud flaps to stop rubbing. Even still I expect I would rub while offroading.

Tires and wheels look great though! Did you get them (wheels) at the dealer or...?:canada:

I've got 274/70r17 G Y Silent Armors on my 2012 Sport also. Just a little trimming, no front air flaps or mud guards, all stock, no rubbing here. Have had it all the way crossed up ( stuck with 2 wheels in the air, yea, no locker). They even make the speedo read right.
