So I just built this sub console box for my access cab tacoma. It holds a 10" Kicker L5 subwoofer. It fits in between the jumper seats and the sub aims downward. The top of the box has a layer of 1/4" high density foam for comfort. I am very pleased with how this box turned out.

I am thinking about building more to sell. Would anyone be interested in one? I can only build them for the access cabs with similar jumper seats like what are in the 2007s.

    Right on!

I have a similar commercially built box in my '09 with a "10 L7. IMHO, it does the access cab well.

What're you thinking on costs for your box if you build more?

I am willing to make more of these boxes. I would need to research the dimensions of the JL W7 subs but im sure it wouldnt be a problem. I would sell the box for $175.00. Are you still interested?

Nicely done. Sounds like a fair price to me. I would like one but, i keep my seats folded down due to the car seat in the back. i'll have to build my own i guess.

How do the downfiring console boxes sound compared to a regular foward or rear facing box? My experience with down firing boxes in the past were not good but, I also was told they depend on the type of vehicle they were in. Mine were in a trunk and did not perform well at all. Do they really do well in trucks and SUV's?

Sounds as good as what you're willing to put into it ($$$.) My setup in an access cab (with no rear door speakers) sounds quite good at any volume level, with just about every music type.

I have a 1200W alpine amp driving a Kicker 10" L7 with different EQ presets on my HU, for switching between music types. Capability to really wreak havoc with it is there, but quality over quantity for me.

It's only there to, really, complement the speakers in my doors.

Also, my seats are always down as well, but the '09+ ACs have split rear seats with a cubby/console thing in the middle. If you look at the last pics, his seats ARE down, and the sub box sits over the top in the center. With as small as those pics are, it is kinda difficult to see.

I wonder if something like this has ever been built for a double cab, almost like a sub enclosure / armrest.

sorry guys. Thanks Kenney for pointing out how small the pictures are. I dont have much experience with the forum, so these pictures should be larger. ;)

These boxes are only wide enough to hold a 10" woofer. Also I forgot to mention before that the driver and passenger seat cannot go back/recline all the way as they will interfere with the box. I installed the amp underneath the driver seat.

    Nice design and execution!

I was thinking of something similar for my 2012 AC with an 8" woofer in a closed box.

Does it matter what direction the woofer faces (eg down vs. up)?

I was going to face it up, but now that i see yours it might save space facing down. (I was planning on the smallest compartment possible and using the rest of the box for storage.)

I definitely want the seats to fold all the was down.

The only reason I made a downfiring box is I didnt want the woofer to been seen from the outside of the truck. The whole "out of sight, out of mind" mentality. Also the woofer is protected this way too.

I honestly just have this sub box sitting in my truck at the moment. I am waiting for the funds for a new head unit and then ill wire it in. I did test the box in my brothers car to make sure it sounded good...and it sounds amazing!! cant wait to wire it into the truck!

I like the downfiring out of siight design. Have been wanting to build a box like this. Right now I have a big ass square box with a 12" Pioneer. I wish I could make this design work for a 12" somehow
