Sad part is that this V8 over 300HP truck gets better fuel economy then our Tacos.

Well.... sort of. Its rated that way, and in perfectly optimal conditions it might. I average about 16 city and between 21 and 22 on the highway. It is certainly better than what most people expect it to be..... or for that matter believe it could be.

The silverado has more of a truck feel to it in my opinion, the gmc's interior is to much like a small suv's imo

In my Tacoma I avg. about 15 MPG and I do not have a heavy foot. I talked to my neighbor and the new 8 cyl engines are more efficient cause on the highway they only use 4 cyl. Forgot what this is called but that sounds good to me.

Congrats on the new truck it looks great! Dispite what people say the GMC's are built a little better and hold up better IMO. As far as the mileage goes I personally don't buy it my friend has a 09 5.3l 2wd and my 13 4x4 gets better then his, so take it for what it is. I also think that's the best looking color on the GM's.

It's on several newer cars as well. I think it's called variable displacement, where it turns off some of it's cylinders to improve fuel economy.

Mine has the cylinder deactivation and the 6 speed tranny. I am not a huge fan of the cylinder deactivation. While it may improve mileage slightly, it makes the truck feel strange. Imagine running 65 on the highway. Step on the gas and before the truck can shift to accelerate, it has to turn on all cylinders. I know they say it happens in a blink of an eye.... but that is a really slow blink. You will also find that the shifting can be a bit scary. I was sitting in traffic waiting to turn left. Rolling forward so I could make it through a gap in the traffic. I stomped the gas and it didn't want to move! Because it was rolling, and to save gas, the truck had shifted to 2nd. I had no power to get through the gap in the traffic. I learned my lesson that time.

So all the things the dealership is telling you about, they are not all perfect! To achieve the posted mileage you will need absolutely ideal conditions. It is better than most people expect though. I also seem to be getting much better mileage in my Tacoma than you are.
