ok i have ran though 4 mm of tire tread on my front two tires in a year. less than 10k miles. basically all on road. i have stock tires (not original but stock) on a 2008 tacoma access offroad.

the dealer says this is normal and i am like BS! is it? i think i need an alignment and they have refused to do it TWICE saying it's not needed

Depending on the tires, that could be normal.

If you're paying, how could they refuse to do it?

Is it wearing evenly? If so, then it could just be the tires. If it's only wearing on the middle of the tire or just the outter edges of the tire (both inside and outside), then it could likely be a tire pressure issue. If it's wearing just on the inside or just the outside edge, then it could be an alignment issue or the result of overly aggressive driving.

    Have the tires been rotated?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Don't go to the dealer. Most alignment shops (around here anyway) won't charge if you don't need an alignment.

My original tires were on less than 2 years and they were bald when I took them off.
