I was not aware that Asolo made tents...is that a 4 season?

    Specs?
Weight is not a huge issue as this would be for car camping or short hikes. Warmth and weatherproofness ( :notsure: is that a word?) are priority.

I'm just throwing around ideas right now and shopping for different options. I am also looking into an RTT which would suffice for most trips....I still need a somewhat "portable" option too.

On Amazon's site it is not calling it a 4 season but was recommended for extreme winds and rain, which is what I got it for. I dont spend much time in the snow camping but high winds are an issue at the ocean. So I can give you an update when we will be using it at the end of this month at Mnt.Lassen. Which we will be staying at about 8500 ft.

just a tip.....if you like to be comfortable then buy a tent with one more than you expect to be in the tent. for example if 2 people are staying in a tent get a 3 person. yeah its extra weight, but when the skys open up for 3 days straight you will love the extra room.good vestibules are a must as well

I do a lot of motorcycle camping and having that extra space makes a big difference. Including the vestibules on either end :)

couldn't have said it any better. This is the exact reason why I bought my 3 man Eureka Apex. It always seems to rain like hell when I go on backpacking trips so I generally bring a 10x12' tarp and my Eureka Apex 3xt. Between the tarp, tent vestibules, and the extra space inside the tent, we can all stretch out and have some room to move around. I stayed cramped up for a full 24 hours one time and said I would never do that again.

Getting ready to plan a backpack/rappel trip to the Red River Gorge in the next month or so. Going to be a good time! Between the leaves changing colors, being away from civilization (besides my buddy who has never been backpacking before), and well.....being away from civilization! Can't wait. I just bought 200' of rope too so I can't wait to hit the tall cliffs in the area. I've always done it with 90' of rope.

OH... and I get to test out some of my newer gear that I have not had a chance to test. :woot:

    Thanks guys.
I've had 2 people in my 2 person tent and well...its VERY cozy  (read: cramped) so yes, I am thinking of a 3 person tent. Even if its just me I figure I'm more likely to have more gear in the tent with me rather than in the truck during the colder weather too so extra space would be nice.

Spent this last weekend out camping - I chose wisely to get away from the smoke choking this area lately. It was a bit hazy at camp but not bad. Went for a hike Sunday morning to an old ghost town and decided to scurry back out of the area when I read the guest log / comment book at the entrance to the town and nearly all of the entries for the last few days had comments such as "bear spotted by mill" and "rotting carcass smell in the afternoon". Now either event by themselves wouldn't worry me much but together all I could think of was if there was something dead it was most likely killed by the bear and he/she was going to be very protective of the feast. Not a good situation to be in.

Getting ready to head out on one of my last trips for the year...I'll be taking off Thursday early for a 4 day, 3 night, 700 mile journey through Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and the Beartooth highway. Should be interesting as most of the campgrounds have closed early this year. AND this trip is a combination of what should have been two separate trips but the summer got away from me so if I want to make it this year I have to do it in one weekend.

Have a good time, I know its been a while since you've gone out. I expect pictures!! If I ever get to travel to the eastern part of the US it will be in the fall. We don't get much of a fall season here let alone all of the colorful foliage.

Thanks! The last backpacking trip I went on was last July I believe. Been way too long! Now that I am done with school though, I should have some more time to get some trips in before I start looking for big kid jobs. As always, I will definitely have pics!

So here is a few pics from our Trip up to Usal and our new Asolo tent.
We can fit to regular size cots in the Asolo tent with decent sized sleeping bags and still have room for gear. I like that it has the vestubule on both sides to get dressed or store more gear out of the rain. The Asolo tent takes about 10 minutes to set up. It uses aluminum poles which are lighter than the fiberglass ones. Very solid tent.
The Elk was right down on the Ocean which we were able to get with in 50 feet of him.

YA we love it up there. It can be crazy sometimes up there but this wknd was awesome. We had a huge campsite all to ourselves and a huge fire pit, wouldve been great to have even more people up there camping next to us as the spot we had enough room for at least another 6 to 8 people.
You go up there much Ian?

Just got the ENO Pro Fly in. opened it up today. At first review, its pretty light for a 10.6'x6.4' tarp. Comes with the lines too which is nice. I will get to test it out next month and will post back with a better review

I messed around with it some more and I think I will really like it. I just got it off Amazon. Got it for $64 with free shipping.

I was looking at that one also. Ultimately i went with the Eno because they have a good rep and the price is better. Ive been searching for tarps for quite a while now but never really found one i liked until this one.
 that would be awesome if we had some bamboo forests.
