I would MUCH rather change the oil myself. But, I'm afraid of voiding my 60,000 mile warranty. So, I take it somewhere and pay out the ass for it. Any way around this? Thanks.

Google: Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975

Even if that act did not exist, changing your own oil does not void your warranty, unless you did something during the oil change to cause a part to fail. This could be something like not putting enough oil, using an oil of a different recommended weight, putting oil in wrong place, using a filter not designated for your model vehicle, among many other very stupid mistakes... most of which would not do enough damage to require warranty work in the first place.

Save your money, do the oil change yourself. Save even more money by switching to a quality synthetic and matching quality filter and then wait twice as long to do your oil change :D 10,000 miles vs 3-5,000 miles and it may only cost a little as $5-10 more for synthetic. Totally worth it. Dont worry about your warranty, it will not be void!

I'd stick to OEM service intervals and DIY. No warranty worries.

changing your own oil does not void the warranty, unless you NEVER do it and take it in with dirty as hell oil...
when/if you do change it MAKE SURE NOT TO DRAIN THE TRANNY FLUID, the pan looks like it should be the oil pan, but its not. :D

Shush! You promised you'd never tell! :( Yep. I did that with my previous 09.

I saw what I "thought" was the oil pan, and thought - "wow...thanks, Toyota....this is very convenient and accessible"!

Dropped the plug....oh shit. What's that pink stuff? Oh....yeah....must be about a pint's worth of tranny fluid. :ohsnap::frusty::frusty:

I'm not worried about messing up the oil change. I am ASE master certified, and my dealership I use to work at use to pull that shit on people all the time. Saying, "we want all the receipts of all the oil changes you have done. Or we are not changing out the motor." It was GM for crying out loud. There motors took a dump ALL the time!
