Not a bad idea, I can say not having to worry about rust would be a nice feature! Not to mention much lighter than steel. Not sure how durable it is compared to steel however.

Want to see a piece of shit?! I'll try to post a picture later of my '06 Tacoma's frame that looks every bit of 35 years old. Rusty as hell and always well taken care of.

Fact is, all manufacturers are going to have to meet the new MPG standards soon, and cutting weight is a good way to do it. I think it's a great idea. Wouldn't be surprised to see the rest of the big trucks follow suit eventually.

+1 on Toyota's frames STILL rusting (my '09 looks like shit and I never go offroad and I clean underneath often).

That's fantastic, I never said that the aluminum was a bad idea either, but I also don't get upset when someone complains about their truck and it's shortcomings. You don't like someone pointing out one of these shortcomings, ie - rusty frames continueing from one generation to the next, either turn your computer off so you don't have to read multiple posts with this complaint on a website or give Toyota a call yourself. I have called Toyota many times to report this issue and find out what they are going to do about it and you know where I got with that? Nowhere! But if any of your brand loyal buddies wants to buy a clean (assuming he does not look under the truck at it's chassis) 2006 Tacoma with 86k miles, PM me because I would sell it in a second.

I know Toyota has issues with frame rust. I'm not upset in the least about it because you have frame rust and I don't have a lick under mine. And if you knew this rusting frame issue from generation to generation you woulda been smart and not bought it. And I bought my truck because of quality which ford has never heard of. So I'm sorry you got a little butt hurt over me sayin that f150 in my opinion looks like crap

My 03 Ford has an aluminium hood, and driveshaft.
My Mazda pick up had them also.

I think cost to produce is getting less and that will justify the weight savings using aluminum.

Keep in mind Ford is using aluminum body panels, not an aluminum frame. This won't help with frame rust issues (or frame bending issues :p).

Aluminum is difficult to repair and weld on a large scale. So if your aluminum car suffers damage to the main unibody structure, most collision shops can't handle it. On pickups, most body panels are replaceable and non-load-bearing.

Going to be difficult to determine whether a vehicle is going to have issues many years down the road when purchasing with only 1 model year of production, wouldn't ya say?! I bought my '06 in '05...don't you think Toyota would have gotten the memo that there is something wrong with the previous generation of pickups so they might want to change something?

Case of fanboyism here. You can't tell me that Toyota hasn't made a lemon in their day because all auto makers have. Also, there's a reason that the F150 is the top selling full size in America for over 30 years, if it was an unreliable pile of crap that wouldn't be the case would it? ;)

Just because I drive a Toyota and only will Does not make me a fanboy. I'm not sayin Toyota has never had a lemon. Obviously every company has. Just seems Toyota has a lot less than most. You cannot disagree with me on that
