    Trying to figure out the 18 mpg with my 4cyl. 2001 reg cab. tires are 265/70/16
    Firestone Destination LE2 not aggressive. This can't be normal. I used to get that MPG with my 6cyl. FJ. any suggestions?

    This is a subject of much talk here, I think you'll find that people start with simple things like fuel filter, air filter and stuff.

    Don't drive it like a banshee and keep it at 65 or under on the freeway.
    I average 19 mixed city/ highway with 35's and 5.29's.

    That could be perfectly normal. Just too many factors. Style of driving, speeds, terrain, city/hwy mix, fuel etc.

    As far as vehicle then there are factors there too. What is it geared. Carrying any extra weight (winches, large bumpers, stuff in the bed etc.). Lifted. Condition.

    Tyre size looks to be factory size although looking at your vehicle on tirerack.com does give the size as an optional size and a smaller tyre size as available. Not sure if they are bang on for that. Would not hurt to verify odometer reading to a gps reading just to verify accuracy.

    Some good points have already been listed.

    Check your maintenance/tune.

    Make sure no dragging/faulty brakes.

    Make sure your tyre pressures are set correctly and alignment is good.

    Maybe clean your MAF/throttle body.

    Drive conservatively. Try to keep the speed lower, take less travelled routes/times so less stop and go potential, plan for lights so you can minimize having to brake or stop, drive smoothly with no jack rabbit starts etc.

    That's one thing I don't change is off spec fluids. 0w20 is like WATER

    17-19s mixed HWY/CTY is what I have been getting on mine for the last few years, and I check every fill-up. Best I have seen is 22, and that was pure highway for the whole tank. Same engine.
