So as the title suggests, my question it about the trucks shuttering when braking. I know I read somethin about this on another thread but can't remember which thread or what was said about it.

I'm asking because my mom's '02 tundra has had this problem for several years now and we can't figure out what's doin it. The brake pads and rotors are fine (have been replaced at least once to see if that was the issue) Andy pretty sure the u-joints were replaced on a recall notice.

I know the tundra isn't set up exactly like the tacomas but hoping someone on here has heard of this problem and has a solution?

I am also curious about what someone has to say. I bought my taco back in March and it has a slight shutter when I brake as well and it barely has 5k on it.

You sure the rotors aren't warped? If you feel ridges across the rotors, time for them to be machined.

    Good luck.

If the brakes are fine, it could be something in the steering assembly. I had a car that shuddered. Turned out it was worn ball joints.

Definitely not either the rotors or steering assembly, both have been completely checked over. And I'm pretty sure the lower ball joints were even replaced in a recall a couple years back

:) In order for anyone to give some advice, we may need some more information about the Tundra. When you say the brakes shutter, does the brake pedal shutter, does the stearing wheel shutter with the brake pedal, or does the whole truck shutter ?

Have the brakes and the rotors been checked and measured for runout on the rotor in the past few weeks or months ? Checking that was done in the past does not help fix the present problem. If stock replacement parts were installed, when the brakes were done, they may not be as good as aftermarket pieces.

I believe all Toyota products suffer from this shutter, it is a by product of trying to reduce weight on brake rotors by making them thinner and more prone to warp. I own a 09 Lexus that has brake shutter in the mountains, but I live with it. Unless you install thicker rotors from the aftermarket, your shutter may be a problem. Good Luck.
