I currently have a black toolbox and I am trying to decide whether I should loose the toolbox and get a tonneau cover or just keep the box. It really doesnt do anything on the back of my truck but I mean it looks good on there.

I'd keep the toolbox. It's more practical(in the actual event that you need it) and it's what's meant to be on trucks honestly lol.

In the end it's up to you

i say keep tool box. prob easier to take out/off if you need room for bigger items. and also the toneau (unless a rolling one) limits the hight of anything you can put in the bed.

Is the toolbox mounted 'over the rail'??

You can get a tonneau cover custom fit to work around the toolbox. I've seen it done at my local accessories shop.... but of course, this would require you to pay someone else to install the custom tonneau.

I have a large plastic box that fits nicely under my tonneau. I keep all my gear in there and everything can be removed easily if I need the bed space.

Take a look at any of the Bak tonneau covers. You can get the BakBox to go with it. Then your tools are out of site. I have the Bak Fibermax tonneau cover with the Bakbox on a 12 Tundra.

I guess it’s a matter of personal taste, if it’s a truck that you use for work I can see using a toolbox. Personally I have an Access Lorado Tonneau cover, my truck is not a work truck but is an everyday driver and I like the look. This is the second time I used one of their covers, I had one on my F250 for 5 years and it still looked great when I sold the truck. It’s real easy to use, one person can roll it up easily. The ribs are built in and roll up with the cover. I seen close to 2 feet of snow sitting on mine during a bad storm a few years ago, and there was no sagging, or problems at all. I wouldn’t buy anything else.
