What should i buy?

Lookin to buy a tacoma cause im sick and tired of my chevy crappin out on me. Looking into tacomas since made by toyota, and my lexus was at 330,000 miles runnin strong till brother wrapped it around a tree. Anyways, i want the 4 cylinder for gas mileage. But, my price range is under 10K. Do i get the 2.4 or the 2.7?Which is cheaper to upgrade and has been proved better in longevity and reliablility? and is the 2.7 in the 2000 models the same as in the newer ones(05 and above i believe)?

 

Do you want 4WD?

The 2.4L is 2WD ONLY.

If you want 4WD, you have to get the 2.7L.

 

Which is the more favorable engine?
Should i be weary of buying one with over 100,000 miles?

 

How will you be using your Taco? Daily Driver, Off-roading, etc.? How are the weather conditions in the area you live? You could figure out if you want a 4X4 or not.

Do you plan on getting something use or new?

I am not too sure by what you mean by "upgrades"? But here are some stuff you can do:
-IMO, you can get a 2.7L. The gas mileage is "great"! Great- really depends on how you drive the Taco.
-Tacos are easy to work with. You have several options of lifting your truck. I have a 5-lugger, there was not much out there for my Taco, but there are some lifts.
-There are numerous ways to setup the wheel and tire combo on a Taco.
-A good portion of 2.7L have removed the secondary air filter and installed a aFe Pro Dry S Air Filter

You can use the search feature to learn about how others are doing with gas mileage, the types of lifts they installed, and their tire and wheel combo.

 

If you get a 2nd gen 4x4 for under $10,000 it will most likely have 100,000 miles on it. 2nd gen is 2005+.

 

I just lookin for a daily driver, with good gas mileage. I drive interstate alot, texas has mild winters so no need for 4 wheel drive. Just like the versatility of having a bed. by upgrades i meant intake, headers, turbo or supercharger, chip etc. I don't like to keep my trucks stock and i would like something with good aftermarket support. I have looked into everything and from what i see a turbo or a supercharger kit is gonna run me between 3 and 4 . not all that bad....
