Ok guys and gals. I've posted several threads regarding a whistling noise coming from my 2010 Taco 4x4. At first I thought it was wind noise but have since ruled that out. Suddenly, it dawned on me: I had the same trouble on a 2000 Frontier back in '02. The sound appears to be coming from the center driveshaft support bearing. The rubber bushing appears to have a little 'play' and it makes a sound similar to the distinctive whistling sound when moved back and forth. My questions are: can this part be lubed or serviced as to alleviate the sound? Does it need replacing? Once again, thanks guys/gals. I look forward to the comments.

    i have 120k miles on my 06 dcsb 4x4.
i noticed this right before my warranty expired at 100k. they replaced the bearing and it was fixed. now, at 120k its doing it again.

i want to just get a one piece driveshaft because its better and about twice the price of the bearing. then i wont have to deal with the problem again. but it would be better if i waited to lift it first, so i have stiffer leaves. i think its the weak ass leaf packs that flex and allow the bearing bushing to be overloaded.

im not sure if i can wait that long. ill probably just cough up the $200 or whatever now, because the blown bearing bushing causes the shaft to vibe pretty bad along with the squeak. if i put torque to the wheels, i get the vibe.

anyone know if that would be bad for the carrier bearings on the t-case or 3rd member? my guess is yes...

....or possibly a new carrier bearing and a torque arm?

that would keep the CSB unloaded right? then the DS could remain stock and the life of the CSB would be prolonged. also, keeping the 2 piece shaft would keep joint angles better and clearance normally higher.

unless i have ridiculously stiff springs, im going to experience push/pull on the shaft, right? is that bad for a one piece shaft?

    thanks

maybe this could be useful. its cheaper and better built. but it doesnt have play. idk if play is needed...
