Alright, I confess. In addition to her corn-free diet and homebaked treats, my dog generally has a small amount of whatever is being served for breakfast (she likes GrapeNuts, breakfast burritos, and biscuits and gravy. And she LOVES oatmeal), and a few spoonfuls of whatever we're having at dinner, vegetables included, as long as it's not something harmful to dogs. The only problem with doing that is she's a bit of a pork chop now; if you're going to feed your dog human food you have to be careful about how much they get and make sure they get lots of exercise.

See, to me it just makes sense to give a dog something other than dog food. We need a varied diet because trace nutrients are what keeps our bodies strong, a wide variety of food is needed to supply all the proper nutrition. Now, a dog would not normally have as wide a diet as we do, but dogs would normally eat prey animals (including the stomach contents of whatever they killed) and dogs are known to occasionally "graze" on a small amount of plant matter. Eating the same kibble every day with no variation can't possibly supply those trace nutrients.

My sister had a pit mix that ate Pedigree and lived to be 15 1/2. Ollie was on Nutro Max and didn't even make 11 :(

Now the girls are on 4 Health.

I hear you... I had a GS and if she got anything other than her food and milk bones - she'd hurl. I always said afterwards I wouldn't feed another dog good food, because it sensitives their system to junk... :notsure:

Zoie eats grass, cardboard, sticks, pine cones with no issues.
