Did you try pushing in the Clutch, Shifting into 2nd, shifting into first, then letting out the clutch?

When rolling and going from second to first, bumper to bumper where i spend too much time, if you put a little pressure on the stick but don't quite force it into fist, you can hear the rpms start to go up. This is the sincro's or something, but it will match the tranny and wheel speed.Once it winds up the tranny, takes less than a second, it will slide right in.
When learning stick i recomend driving with the radio off. All seasoned stick drivers I know shift by ear. once you are used to it you can hear it with the radio loud.

I just got back from my usual bumper-bumper on I-5 northbound and I noticed that I was @ 8mph when she went into 1st using the above technique.
