I'm new to this site and wondering if anybody has had this similar issue. I had a flat tire fixed, they broke the cap inside the wheel. When I left the shop, my speedometer wasn't working. Coincidence? The tire place said it could not have anything to do with changing the tire. It works sometimes but not always. Took it to Toyota and they ran all the standard tests but found nothing. After leaving, shutting down and restarting an hour later it quit working again...it's very sparatic and sometimes the light on the shifter doesn't work as well....

    Any comments or suggestions?

Needle stops moving. Haven't determined if there's a corrolation between the two at this point.

Well could be the cluster is going bad or the VSS could be going out.

Thank you...I own an FJ as well. The Tacoma is being passed down to my daughter.......Love Toyota's but this problem is puzzling..

Just went for a test drive and Speedo is working again. The VSS was just tested today and since the shifter light doesn't work regularily, I bet it's the Cluster.

Any idea what I should expect to pay for that if it is the problem...?

just google toyota tacoma guage cluster. that is a really odd problem, and i would probably make the tire place pay for it as it would appear to a reasonable person that they broke it.
