It's just a very poor performing radio. Receive and transmit are weak, it picks up a lot of noise and there are no adjustments inside the radio. And for the price you could have a Cobra 29 which is much better.

Maybe drill out the underside of the bar so the stud will fit through it? Then the top side just enough to fit.

i was thinking about doing that but the last person that had the tire carrier had it like this without making the hole bigger, i just talked to him through PM and he told me what he used, he took out the coax thread and replaced it with a long bolt and got this wire. http://www.amazon.com/Firestik-Anten...nna+coax+cable
if i make the hole bigger on the bottom it will get water in there and rust the tube from the inside, i want to close it up completely so it can stay dry inside the tube.

Well I had my 18 peaked and tuned and it had done just as good or better than my 19 I had in my jeep. The weatherband is great. It's not going to be a cobra 29 or anything like that but it does what I need it to do. When I got this radio I read a lot of opinions on this radio and it was worth it to me due to the fact that it fits in the dash and it was a clean look. That radio has done well.

how did you mount your antennas? i want to buy a cobra 29 and put it under my seat and get a 4' firestik to go along with it.

but how did you mount yours? i have a first gen and wanted to mount it right behind the cab on the passenger side ... my bed has a spray in liner if that makes a difference

thanks for the help taco prerunner. but i already fixed the problem, i just replaced the coax connector with a long enough bolt to go through the tube, i just need to get this cable http://www.amazon.com/Firestik-Anten...nna+coax+cable
with that end so i can put it through the bolt, rightnow i just have the antenna just for looks. I still haven't found a spot to install my cb radio. i want to put it where the ash tray is but i need to see or info on how they did it cause it wont fit how some people have it, i dont want to screw it up and cut the trim too much.

I'm just not a fan of Firestik products. I never had good luck with them. I am to Firestik as Whippersnapper is to Flowmaster.

Where/how can I mount an antenna on a 2nd Gen Tacoma without having to drill into the bodywork or bed? Thanks.
