To tell the truth, I am a little embarrassed that I didn't know what branch of the military. I've seen the Guard Changing Ceremony three times in person. I should have known better. The uniforms they wear look so much like Marine uniforms (to my untrained eye) that I made the mistake. Glad for the opportunity to have learned a little something.

    does it matter?

This isnt a KONY2012 thread where past ignorance even matters

it's a thread in support of the Old Guard

He could use the same pic as I posted in my Irene thread and the idea would be the same

ha-ha moment about the Marines tho :cookiemonster:

Somebody re-tweeted a picture and I saw it there.

I looked at details of the tweet, and I saw verified news agency twitter accounts (ABC and CBS) asking for permission to use it on the air. That doesn't prove anything other than they hadn't done their homework yet either.

I then did a Google Image search, and looked for the same image posted BEFORE 10/29 and found several. I changed the search parameters to search for only images posted BEFORE 10/28 and saw NO matching images, which led to the ".... yesterday (or today?)..." portion of my original post.

I've been to DC 5 or 6 times in my life, and I've witnessed the changing of the guards ceremony three times. A mis-informed person (probably one of my parents) told me that they were Marines, and because the uniform looks similar (again... to my untrained eye), I took it as fact. I suppose you'd like my parents' email addresses so you can criticize them, too.

I don't know if I've ever posted about the tomb guards on TW before today. If I haven't, does it make me an idiot? If I have, does it make me an expert?

I didn't pull an image off of facebook, assume the storm picture was from Sandy, and go with it. I did at least a LITTLE due diligence, and I was wrong.

    Sue me.

+1 to you man. You may have been uninformed but you still cared enough to act on it. Like you said you learned something!! I think it is great for people to acknowledge what is not seen, but should be by every American in the country!!

It's not the OP's fault 95% of society doesn't give to shits. Yea, he made a mistake. Regardless of the mistake, I think we can all agree that the pic is bad-ass, and something to keep reminding us of the honor and respect and devotion that should be shown to the fallen of America's military.

Marine's or Army, Sandy or not, these guys stand guard with the utmost discipline, honoring the fallen. Can we not respect that?

I understand where you are coming from Gelo, but that is not the discussion in this forum today.
