SPRING PERCHES!!!!!!! ........not the shock mounts. The shock mounts are on either side of the axle housing to help with axle wrap. Take a look, one mount is on the front side of the housing and the other is on the rear side of the housing.

That GM housing didn't have a third member. You had to rebuild by completely remove all the gear guts. A third member refers to the likes of a Toyota with a banjo housing where you would just unbolt all the forward facing nuts/bolts, disconnected the axles....pull them away from the gears and then pull it forward. Like on a Ford 9".

You would'nt be able to rotate the axle up without relocating the perches. The perches need to be inline with the bottom leaf spring.

Wow...I thought the Chicken was more mechanically inclined than this....I'm now depressed.

If you didn't rotate the perches, you'd rotate the axle tubes. Either way it's NOT the shock mounts

It's called "CLOCKING". If you look at the axle from the driver's side wheel, you'd rotate the axle/pinion clockwise up.

LOL, Kinda hard not to be when someone says they mounted their shocks to the hood, and removed the thirdmember from the grill, and it fixed the U joint. :D

Alright alright, got some nomenclature buggered up here and there and it's been 9 years since I was under the ass end of a Chevy. Ok. I just crawled under the Tacoma and see that the shocks mount to the leaf spring perch. Not the case on the 81 Chevrolet K5 Blazer. The spring perch was separate from where the shocks mounted to the axle see picture.

I know what your talking about now. Moveing the shocks still have no impact on the U joints, though.

You are not moving the shocks. You are moving where they attach to the rear axle. With the short wheelbase of the full size Blazers it did make a difference. Before the constant strain on the u joints would eat them up in regular driving. Now, cut off the existing mounting location rotate the whole rear axle assembly a few degrees and reattach the mounts.

Just trust me on this. I have seen it work.
