nexen tires

i just recently bought a 99 tacoma prerunner that has what looks to be a new set of nexen roadian h/t tires 235-75-15. when hitting speeds between 55-65, my truck rides horribly! it feels like i'm driving 90 down a gravel road, even when it is on the smoothest of highways, my truck just shakes something fierce. anyhow i was wondering if anyone else has had trouble with these tires or is it something else. I have done put new front/rear shocks on, balanced/rotate tires, and even got my ball joints, tie rods,wheels inspected as well as a alignment. everything checked out, could it be the tires are just riding that bad or do I have other problems..... any feedback would be much appreciated.

aren't very aggressive tires. And aggressive tires don't even ride that rough; just loud. If you've had them balanced and done all of the other things that you've said ... well then you're shit out of luck.

No seriously I might have your drive shaft checked, any slight bend in that thing is going to rock your world, literally. Tranny after that ... just my guesses. Good luck.

 

yea, there are like the least aggressive tire i have seen on a truck. the drive shaft thing has crossed my mind. but what could be wrong with the tranny? for what it's worth, the faster i go, the worst it gets also, i went to a tire store in the area that has like the best diagonistics guy for virations and shakes and shit like that(from what the owner stated) but this was his saturday off, so i got an appointment with him on thurs.

 

Not really sure what could be wrong with the tranny that you wouldn't notice under other conditions. Just a thought really. It would make sense that its the drive shaft or something that is directly related to the vehicle's speed. I wanted to at first say there may be an engine mounting problem but as gears change the RPMs drop (obviously) so that wouldn't make sense. I'm at a loss especially if the tire guy is. Wonder if you have a set of barrings that are bad somewhere?

 

where are the different barring located and what could i do to check them. somebody has even threw in a uv joint going bad?

 

Start at the wheels and work your way up the drive train. Fortunately for you this isn't a heavy duty truck so you don't have to worry about the center barring inbetween the two sections of the drive shaft. A UV joint going bad would also make sense. I knew someone who owned a Jeep and drove it around on pavement in 4WD and blew out their UV joints and ended up doing something similar to this. I only "work" and medium and heavy duty ambulances that amounts to anything. I haven't gotten to play with my new Taco yet so my knowledge is limited. I'm hoping someone else jumps in on this thread and can provide some ideas.

You've still got a UV or two in there even though your running a small truck. I would imagine that you're problem is in there somewhere. Maybe also check the differential in the rear and the axle from there to the tires on either side. Anything that should be straight that could be bent for one reason or another should be checked. I think at this point you're going to spend more time hunting it down and checking/testing for it than you are actually fixing it.

 

i figured that, i just don't know how to test/check stuff
