I have a question for all you tire geeks out there. First of all, is an '05 Tacoma considered to be a 2nd gen Tacoma? I've been looking for new rubber, and thought I'd go with a little bit bigger tire as far as width. I have an '05 Tacoma Pre-Runner Access Cab V6,auto transmission, currently with stock wheels, and the Dunlop AT20's (245/75/16)...(2n set). The tag inside the door does not suggest I may use any other tire but the size I currently have on these wheels. Is this the bottom line or what? I'm about as worn out as an old tire looking for these things!

Yep, the 05 is the first year of the 2nd gens. The 16 inch rims can also have 265/70's on them no problem, that is or was one of the optional tire sizes. It's nearly the same total diameter but the 265's look much better IMO. Mine had the 245's on when I bought it but I had them switched for my 265's on my trade in and it's a definite improvement in looks.

The dunlops are terrible, pretty much anything else is going to be better than them.

265/75r16, or 235/85r16 will also fit your stock truck just fine. Both are taller than your stock tires, 265 are a bit wider than your stock, and 235 are slightly narrower but don't sacfice a whole lot a handling.

Thanks for the info. I was leaning toward putting a little more rubber on the road with the 265s' vs. the 245s'. Some places advise not to, unless the sticker inside the door states any other sizes, and the sticker in my door only states the 245s'. Am I liable to lose gas mileage? I guess I'll find out,eh?
