Ok I'm putting BFG A/T on my truck and decided to buy another OEM off-road alloy wheel so I could have a full size spare.. And so I could rotate it through during tire rotations.. It's used from an '07 tacoma but the guy said it DOES NOT have a pressure sensor.. Any way to check this out? I guess I could just order a sensor so when the tires get put on they can slap it in there, but even the spares on the '07 had sensors. Short of taking the tire off and inspecting, is there any way to check if there is a sensor?

I guess I could swap out my spare, reset the system, and deflate the wheel in question.. See if the warning comes on.. I also know that it transmits at 315MHz so I thought i could use my HAM radio handheld to pick up a spur at 315MHZ, but no luck.. Don't know how often it transmits. Any ideas would be appreciated.

If the valvestem is aluminum then it is a TPMS sensor. If it is rubber, then it's not.

Yep, just rubber. So there isn't a sensor.. Thanks for the info. So if I want to rotate the spare in without that annoying light, I can just buy a sensor and have the tire shop install it? Or is it some special procedure that only Toyota can do? thanks

Any tire shop can install it.

Maybe. The OP has a 2010 truck and the spare tire sensor was deleted in 2009. Don't know if you can add the fifth sensor to the 2010 TPMS computer.
