Different overhead temp display issue?

I read a few threads on the overhead accessory console issue and it seems like the problem is generally that it doesn't work at all and that a simple resolder of one of the resistors (or whatever the # 510 components are) fixes it.

But my console works, lights, compass, temp display... except the temp display gets stuck on a number, like 34 dgerees at 7:00 AM this morning. Several times in and out of the truck and it still reads 34 degrees even though it is up to 50 outside at noon here.

So has anyone had this type of failure and does the same solder fix work? Or is there something else going wrong here, like the temp probe?

Nothing wrong with inspecting the circuit board for obvious blown circuits, broken solder points, etc. Also, check to make sure the temp probe (where ever it may be) is connected and/or the wiring isn't broken.

Not sure where the probe is but I'm sure it is connected since the problem is intermittent. For now the temp display responds normally most of the time... so I won't be disassembling anything unless/until it gets worse. Just curious if anyone else had seen this and come up with a fix.

Are you by any chance still under your factory warranty? I see you have a 2009, but I didn't know what your mileage is.

Yes, still under warranty. But this issue is very intermittent (every couple /few weeks AFAICT) so would likely be one of those that "cannot be duplicated" by the dealer. I am not gonna waste my time doing the dealer shuttle unless it breaks for real... or starts happening enough that there is a reasonable chance it will present itself when I take it in.

Depending on how often it happens...Next time you need an oil change or something else done, wait and take it in when it's happening. When you pull into the dealership, don't shut off the engine right away until someone sees it. If a dealership can visually verify that something is wrong, they won't give it back to you as "no problem found," because they know you may get a satisfaction survey because it's warranty work.

Their salaries can take a hit if you ding them on a survey. I know because I used to be an assistant service manager for a cadillac dealership in Dallas, Tx.

I have been having this issue too. For right now, I can "correct" it by unplugging the sensor, turning the truck on then back off. I plug the sensor back in, turn the truck back on and it reads correctly. Obviously this is not a permanent fix, I am checking into the problem. I may take down the display to check the resistors. I am going to get a new temp sensor, although that seems a bit of a reach. I think the problem is in the display.

Report it to the dealer and make sure that they write it up and do this right away. That way, if it happens again and you happen to by passed the warranty period, you will be in a better position to get a warranty repair.
