Received some great info on differential and transfer case lube changes here and was completing the process a couple of days ago.

Just as I was finishing the transfer case fill, the fluid pump- purchased from Amsoil- plastic tip came loose and dropped in the transfer case.

Attempted to fish it out with no luck so far.

I'm considering purchasing a borescope so I can light up and view the inside, along with a better fishing tool OR

having a professional make an attempt, which might mean removing the T-case to unbolt the cover.

It has also been suggested that the chain would grind up the plastic tip- roughly one inch long and a half inch at the widest, with a conical shape. I haven't had the guts to try this due to worries about damage to the chain.

Opinions? Maybe someone else had the same Oh, $hit moment?

this is gonna sound like a stupid question but did you pull the drain plug and see if you can get it back that way?? i would think its flaoting on the oil in there sooo if you drop the level to the bottom you should be able to fish it out easier....love the northeast kingdom up there....good luck

by the way one of those 3 pronged grabber tools from any ap store may just do the trick

This. If the cap doesn't come out the first time, I'd keep flushing it through a few times to see if it will come out. You can re-use the oil since it'll still be clean, fresh oil but it'll save you the costly repair of taking it to a shop and having them tear it down.

No idea how this might play out. Probably the piece would get ground up, or it could just bob around in there. There is an oil pump that lubricates the Tcase with a screen filter. If the ground up stuff somehow clogged the filter that would starve the Tcase of oil.

I agree with the idea of draining the oil and see if it comes out with that. just use a clean container and you can reuse it.

The chain is too close to the drain plug to allow the plastic tip to fall out that hole or be pulled through.
The first thing I did was to drain out the fresh lube so I could attempt to run a fish line from fill hole to drain hole and vice versa.
The only option for removing it in one piece is the fill hole.

Looks like the investment in a bore scope may be worth it.
