    Actually if you read the manual (It's been awhile since I got rid of my GTI) the 2.0 has long oil change intervals 5k, 10k, and then every additional 10k. They claim that modern oil doesn't break down as quick as stuff from 20+ years ago and with tighter tolerances in the motor and better filters intervals don't need to be as frequent. I changed it at 5k intervals since a little extra in oil was good insurance. I used synthetic in my GTI for the 70k miles I owned it and didn't have any problems. Used royal purple. that stuff is too rich for my blood anymore, and my taco doesn't have a problematic turbo charger.
