Yea and the blizzard right after didn't help. Some people in jersey were forgotten about, saw it on the news.

I guess having some 5 gallon cans of kerosene stashed would be good, for generator. But good ole wood stove would be a lot of help to many about now.

Hey guys, I could use some help with a Christmas present for my father in law. He is somewhat a survivalist and is into being "prepared". I was going to order a Crovel on the previous page but my wife shot that idea down. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Budget would help - along with what level he is at now. General ideas would be a good first aid kit - solar panel for charging AA batteries for radio/phone - pair of FRS walkie talkies...if he has guns - magazines or a good cleaning kit. A pail of food from WalMart...just for some starters....I can provide links for any of that if it looks like it might be working...

Round $100, no more than 150. I was going to go with some MRE's but he has a large stash of those already and has moved onto buying bulk seeds.
Magazines are a good idea, he has multiple AR's and just bought a new Colt 1911 so possibly a new holster too.
Not sure if he has a Walkie Talkie so thats deff a possibility. Appreciate the help guys, wife had me so frustrated earlier that I couldn't even think of anything.

Good to help - here are some of the ideas with links...hint - maybe lay this around for a spouse/partner since Christmas is coming for all of us!!....

Goal Zero +10 Solar Panel with 4AA Recharg Batteries: http://www.goalzero.com/shop/p/132/Guide-10-Plus-Mobile-Kit/1:1

Pair of Motorola Talkabouts - with NOAA Weather Radio:
    http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MR35...352700436&sr=1-16&keywords=motorola+talkabout

One of the better first aid kits - preassembled: http://www.adventuremedicalkits.com/product.php?catname=Mountain&prodname=Weekender&product=87

Here are five flashlights (tactical series) that are all under $100: http://www.lightjunction.com/eaglet...l.html?zenid=f11069d04f0a277a7e6052d1630ebccb

This is my EDC folding knife and I like it a lot -- it is a little more than $100 but you can find it under if you shop a bit:
    http://sogknives.com/store/TF-7.html

I suggested things I have, and use, understanding that there are lots of brands and other ideas out there...

Can't go wrong with MRE's or other stuff -- but a light, or knife, is a little more personal and makes the user think of you each time s/he uses it....all IMHO....

Anybody familiar with the knife sharpening section at bass pro? I'm needing a large 8x3or bigger Arkansas stone. I found one on eBay,but haven't pulled the trigger. EBay will keep me out of the store.

Sorry to hear about your truck!! That is a good choice of gun (IMHO) -- it is what I chose. I was just down at Federal Way Discount -- since they moved - WOW!! Threw a scope on mine -- happy!!!

    :)

    Where do you shoot???

    ...too much shit to list.
And here I thought this was the survivalist thread, not the political thread.
