Nerf Bars: Non-Polished stainless steel??

Hey Guys....

Just looking for some direction, I am interested in adding nerf bars to my new 2013 Double cab. I've been researching like crazy - Nfab, Rhino, etc.. My biggest issue is that I like the look of the black but I want stainless steel so they don't rust! I have found just stainless steel but all of them are polished giving them a bright chrome look. I'd much prefer a "flat" or non-polished stainless steel or even a flat black coating on stainless steel. Does anyone have any info on where I can find such a thing? I do like the look of the Nfab's (Part No. T0678CC-SS) - the hoops but I am open to oval tubes as well. I do apologize if this topic is redundant, I've seen multiple posts on this forum about nerf bars but nothing about a non-polished stainless steel look.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

 

I just got ProMaxx stainless oval tubes for mine. While they're shiny, they're not as shiny as chrome. More like a brushed stainless look. I think they look sharp with the chrome accents on the Taco.

 

Do you have any pictures of them installed you could post?

 

Powdercoated aluminum may be easier to find than SS.

I want the same as you OP. I decided to buy a set of used, black, step bars and coat them with Raptor Liner.

Raptor Liner (much like Rhino Liner or Line-X, except its DIY and much cheaper). Raptor Liner has great reviews, appearance, and longevity, and is applied with a pneumatic spray gun that comes with the kit. I'll have extra Raptor Liner as the kit comes with 4x750ml bottles designed to apply 2 coats to a truck bed, so I'm planning on undercoating my truck with the remaining bottles.

 

by the way, the total price of used bars, and raptor liner (with hardener and primer) will be about the price of brand new stainless nerf bars.

Threadjack! lol I try to not do this but I see you live fairly close to me so I figured I'd throw this down. In case anyone is interested I have a NEW set of Trail FX stainless steps for a double cab. They match the ones in the pic below. I had a set of them on my truck and when I went to remove them and the nuts inside the tube started to spin. A quick call to my accessory shop and I had a new set under warranty. So these are brand new, never installed, still in wrapping! I'd like 250 for them and I'm willing to drive a short distance to deliver.

 

Arent the OEM ones just a silver color? Might want to check those ones out.

 

Buy these and powdercoat , paint or LineX them black

Let me ask you guys this, do any of these nerf bars fit a 2013? Just about all the ones I've seen only say 2012. I've e-mailed Westin, Nfab and Rhino but haven't received any responses.

 

Any steps that fit an 05-12 will fit a 13

 

I ended up getting the Nfab Stainless Steel bars and the look great! I was afraid they would be to shiny but it compliments the front chrome very well. Very easy to install too!!

BTW....it was shipped very well! Lots of foam and bubble wrap, in fact it took me longer to unwrap it then it did for me to install them.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I have a question similar to the OP.

I've got a black 2013 TX Pro (no Baja stickers) and I'd really like to have black nerf bars with steps like the N-Fabs Fletch bought. However, I've heard people say that the black doesn't hold up as well to nicks and dings, and will have a tendency to rust. I'm not looking to Raptor Liner them as I'm circumspect about my ability to make it look good, and I'd rather buy a durable product than make a lesser product more durable.

So I guess I have two questions:
1) Black on Black, or would chrome, brushed steel, etc. look better. I'm running the factory build right now with black/silver wheels. I'd like to keep the low-key TX Pro look.

2) More important than appearance, I want to buy a durable product, and not something that will chip or rust faster than the rest of the truck body. What's the most reliable material/coating for nerf bars? I'm not planning to go rock sliding, but will do occasional camping, rural off-roading.
