    Guys,

I'm looking at a 2012 Prerunner double cab TRD Offroad. Mileage is around 10k and the dealer is asking $25,495 (internet price). Does anybody know if it would be at all possible to get the truck for $24k OTD?? $23K would be even better but I doubt they will go that low. ANY help would be great OR any tips for haggling would be greatly appreciated.

I just saw on tv that used prices will be going up due to the demand from all the people that lost their vehicles in storm Sandy. As a former salesperson, if I were you, ask for $23,000 and start there. Try to meet in the middle. If they want a sale, they will come down. If you want the truck, you'll move up. There is always wiggle room, but every car on every lot has different amounts of profitability. They buy it for price A, put in repairs for price B, and advertise it to you at price C. I've sold cars in the past with $500-5000 worth of profit. If you are honest with what you want from them, And tell them, as a salesperson I would do my best. If you make it a drawn out process with complaints and attitude, I would do very little for you. Most salespeople are the same. Just walk in and tell them you want it for $23k and see what they say. Tell them you will finance with them RIGHT NOW and you want to drive off with the truck RIGHT NOW. You can finance with them to get the better deal then refi at your own bank once you drive it home. Since the dealer will make a little cash on financing you may get some money off the cars price. If you set a realistic expectation, and understand that as a business they need to make some money, and if you commit to buy right then and there if they get close to your numbers, most dealers will sell it NOW instead of waiting for a possible sale in the future. Supply and demand in your area is also a factor. Sorry for the long reply! Good luck.

REALLY appreciate the help!! Quick question though. I won't be financing the vehicle. I have that amount to pay for it. Will that make much of a difference??

Do your research is my suggestion. See what the current value for that vehicle is in your area to help you on what is a fair asking price. There are tricks you can use, but to be honest sometimes it can bite you. When I was looking for a 4X4 Jeep years back I found the exact one I wanted on a lot. I called in under a false name asking if they had any other Jeeps that they could get, and they said no. That afternoon I drove in and started looking at it. A salesman came up and we started talking. I told him I did NOT want a 4X4, and he said that the 4X4 was the only one they had. We haggled back and forth and I acted really bummed about the 4X4 (higher maint costs, lower fuel economy, etc) Eventually I got him almost 3 grand off the windshield price. Then the fun began. We went inside and negotiated financing, extended warranty, etc. I had been telling them the entire time that I was not trading in my other truck. (They had offered me 2500 trade in at the start) Eventually we got all the negotiating taken care of and I was looking at getting it for 2.5k off price, and they dang near GAVE me the extended warranty (My cost was $800 from the original $1500) Then I said to them "You know what, I think I'll take the $2500 trade in!" They were steaming, but I ended up getting it after some discussion. When all was said and done I got a Jeep that was only 4 years old at the time for $7950, and got $2500 trade in on my old Pathfinder with 250k miles on it. It's all in the negotiation and KNOWLEDGE is power.

I just bought a new (200 miles) 2012 dclb trd sport prerunner (MSRP 29495) for 25000 even. Good luck. There is 1500 rebate on any 2012 Tacoma so buy new then.
