This, is what I have a problem with.

I think your analogy was comparing apples to oranges, but I really don't care if virginia is in the south or not. And I don't know where the yankee comment came from, I don't think I gave any indication that I disliked people from the north. I've grown up around Raleigh/Cary my whole life and have met plenty of people from the north that I respect and admire. One of my best friends is from pennsylvania and I don't think Ive ever used the word "holler" in my life. As for the picture, I don't see how that contributes to this discussion at all.

The way I see it, I myself have met a lot and am friends with several good ole country boys/gals! If Hollywood wants to depict the south as a bunch of dumb rednecks that don't have any sense... Let them! That keeps them from wanting to move down here and crowd my nice open relaxing space! When the shit hits the fan.. we'll see who lasts the longest! LOL!

As far as Honey boo boo.. :violent:

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I live in Montana, most all of those assumptions about rednecks you see on TV are hollywood lies.

I happen to live in the same general area as the Honey BooBoo family. I have never seen it, but from what I understand they might not be making too many friends with some of that shtick.

One lady, owns a very respectable custom wig shop in Macon GA, with clients all over the country, was all excited her store was goin to appear in an episode. During filming the show, the Boo Boo's requested to see the costume wigs, which she had a large inventory, but these were halloween and clown type stuff, way different from the real custom wigs she makes for her clients.

So when the show actually aired the only thing shown was the clown wigs with mama exclaiming "these are a big hot mess...!"

Said owner was POd to say the least and she spent the next week or two on the local news with damage control.

It always seemed to me that Paula Dean does this, sort of exaggerated the words and her drawl. Her kid's also their restaurants are only open because of their family name. Their food sucks ate there 3 times hated it every time.

Unfortunately we are subjected to all this red-neck-ness because tv programs ran out of content to show and reason why they ran out of content to show is because content produced is really bad.

Let me give you an example. Mr. Roger's Neighborhood ran for almost 4 decades... 35 years. We do not get shows like that anymore. Our television went from organizing to watch one of 22 channels to organizing to watch one of 22,000 channels. And that is a huge problem for both television and viewers.

TLC channel is a perfect example of how something so obvious can be so far from the truth. The Learning Channel features some of the worst if not the worst content ever. It is like watching a smut porno only in technocolor and high definition. They begin with producing shows about getting married in most lavish and expensive way possible, how to produce most amount of pvc and fondont in your cake, how to pick the right dress for the wedding, how to wed in 4 different ways, how its ok to procreate like there is no tommorow. They top it off with shows about grown women not knowing they were pregnant until labor kicked in. As if that was not enough they stretch limits of acceptable tv by embracing boo boo, polygamists and to those who are poor because of all of the above they also shows ways in which one person can walk into a store... purchase 3000 dollars worth of stuff and walk out paying only 1 dollar. How that happens is unbeknownst to me because no store I know of would accept hundreds of coupons.

This latest fab about rednecks on TLC, History and other networks is only because tv shows went from running 4 decades to running 4 seasons to not sure if they can run a season and when one show cancels they somehow have to fill that gap with most vial most anything goes programming.

I honestly do not know who watches shows during day time that warranty 22 food channels or 17 travel channels or 65 news channels or 300 versions of hbo channels or 9 versions of science channel... What I do know is by embracing their crap programming they out crap each other.

One network makes show about (insert name here). Other network copies that show and makes it more provocative. First network responds by creating second of similar show. Other network responds by making even more provocative show. And it keeps getting worse and worse. Everyone has to yell at each other, stereotypes have to be vaguely overestimated and everyone loves each other but has to curse every 2 seconds hoping other person would die while arguing.

I personally gave up on television in 2004 while in college. I stopped watching regular programming and exclusively watch discovery, national geographic, history, animal planet (select shows of course). I refuse to subject myself to what is on regular networks... my mind would not process what is in the media today.

Yarik83, I think you're right. Only thing missing in your response is the fact that consumers only have themselves to blame, not the networks. Without an audience there is no show, period.
