So my truck squeaks every now and then. It goes away after it warms up. I'm debating on if i should pull the belt and clean it with a mild soap or just replace it. I've only got 40,000 miles on my 06 TRD SPORT. I've heard that belts should last till 60,000 but the belt is 6 years old. What do you guys think?

If you're going to through the trouble of taking it off, you might as well replace it with a new one.

Seems like an old belt, but are all your pulleys good? They could be a problem too. But replacing the belt probably would help a lot.

If its a pulley that's the culprit, the noise wouldn't go away. The lower idler bearing has been known to go bad on the 1gr.

Just had that issue a couple weeks ago. New belt cleared it right up.

It's actually not that hard. There should be a diagram of the pulleys in the owners manual. Helps if you have a breaker bar. You'll need the leverage for the belt tensioner.

This was the background for my phone for awhile... The lower idle pulley is just wanting to go bad. A t breaker bar for the tensioner helps a lot. Was a pain to set.

My front cv tore a boot and flung grease everywhere. I remember, I was out on a date in the woods and my truck was squealing horribly. It concerned the lady (as well as myself) and we did no more "extreme" offroading that night  . On the interstate drive home I smelled something burning and just shunned it as a semi in front of us. Nonetheless, a week later I noticed my cv had torn and flung grease everywhere. Even onto the serpentine belt. CV replaced under warranty and I paid and installed a new belt myself as extra assurance so I'll never get stranded from a broken belt.

Wow, this is diagram is super helpful.

I have an 06 tacoma, 4x4. Not prerunner or xrunner.

Toyota says I need to replace the Idler pulley on the power steering side and it looks like that's on the left hand side of your diagram between and slightly below the P/S Pump and Water Pump - that sound right to you?

Also, does any one know the part number for the rock auto or the napa version of the part? I've heard they are much cheaper.

    Thanks,

    Doug
