install offroad lights

hey guys im going to put some offroad lights on my truck and im going to be using a switch so i want to hook up the lights to my fuse box and i only want them on when i go offrading at night so i just flip the switch to turn them on HELP

 

Power your switch off your accessory fuse and the send the other end to a 12v 30 amp relay's energizing coil.

If you're wired to the accessory fuse, the lights will only be on when the key is turned (prevents accidently leaving them on when you leave the truck). The switch portion of the relay would be used to power the lights.

Using a relay makes sure that power for the light isn't running through the switch (which would fry the switch). Fuse the light power near the battery.

 

yea i only want my lights on when i turn the switch to be on i dont want to have tem on when i start my truck its only for when i go out riding at nite to turn the switch to have them on

 

In the example above, they would only be on when you flip the switch. The switch energizes the relay, closing the relay's internal switch, which then allows power to the lights.
