when to rebuild

figured this is the best place to get reliable info!!! lets hope so

i drive a 97 taco, with 240,000 miles on it. 2.4 zrfe automatic transmission 4x2 (im saving up with the gas money i save to get a little 80s mud toy) but right now im trying to make sure my baby keeps rolling. i drive it 60 miles round trip 6 days a week for work. so the miles just keep on coming. it burns oil a little, i have to put 2 quarts in about every two weeks which isn't that costly but it brings up a question for me: when should i invest in a rebuild kit? i know the rule of "if it ain't broke dont fix it" COULD apply here but im aiming for longevity with this truck. not interested in buying another motor really, this one is the strongest 4 cylinder ive ever had. i drove it a total of 13 hours on a trip to new orleans so i know its not in that bad of shape at all. i believe the phrase is "preventative maintainance"

Do a compression check. There are others with 500k on these motors.
