seeing as how i do not like having anyone other than myself working on my truck, i was wondering if anyone had asked a dealership to give them the supplies included in the toyotacare service plan so that they could do it themselves.

Anyone tried or had any luck with this ?

    Thanks

I'm going to ask for the oil filter...but, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I will hopfully have an answer for ya next week. 4,400 miles today. I'm the same way, I'd be happy if they at least let me watch.

Some members have posted that their dealers gave them the filter and drain plug gasket but not the oil. It doesn't hurt to ask. Me? I used my ToyotaCare with no problems.

I only found people getting the oil change materials themselves when the dealership #$%@'d something up. And it was only to redo the work yourself, that one time.

That was what happened to me.. received 7 qts of 0w20, filter, and washer. Told that it was a one time deal, even though it frees up their mechanic clowns to ruin other people's oil changes in the shop. Asked if I could just get 6 qts of bulk 0w20 since I assumed that was cheaper. Nope.

Good luck. What happens is they would have to log in the system and claim they did it for toyotacare to pay for those materials. And then what would happen if you messed up the oil change? You could go to another dealer and blame the otherone for something you did. The dealer that gave you supplies would be liable.

Let the dealer do the job and then double check the work.

    good point above.

as far as the dealer doing the work...I'd rather change my own oil than have some flunky do it who was washing dishes at Applebee's last week.

even though the filter and the washer are not very much $ wise in the scheme of oil changes, i feel as though i would be happy to receive even just that. then i would still have the peace of mind that i did it myself and did it right.

I have an appointment monday. It will be the first time someone other than myself has changed my oil. I'm going to give them the chance.
