i was under the impression fiat was owned by Daimler chrysler not the other way around, i guess i just thought it made more sense for a the owner of dodge crysler ram jeep to buy a company that only makes like 4 different cars instead of visa versa. if thats the case and Daimler chrysler may in years to come move up on my of vehicles i would buy if toyota goes out. (bottom of the list something like this right now ford/mazda, hundia, kia, Daimler Chrysler, murry, GM. end of list)

Daimler Benz used to have a majority stake in Chrysler but they sold their shares to a privately held corporation(Cerberus). Fiat bought a majority interest when Cerberus could not keep things going. Fiat is huge in other parts of the world.

Dodge (and company) have been the town whore over the past several years. Having been bailed out by the tax payers years ago, "merged" with Mercedes, owned by an investment company, bailed out by the tax payers again and then sold out of bankruptcy to Fiat. There is much more to Fiat then the US market though historically I don't believe it has been the best run automobile manufacture.
