Would it be worth it to do a swap for the fifth gen 4runner 270hp engine, I've heard the reason why that engine gets more power its because it has efi fuel system versus our sfi I'd like to hear from someone more knowledgeable on the subject

It has dual VVTi so it can control timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. I believe we have it only on the intake cam. Someone check to make sure I'm accurate.

Would it be possible to just swap out the head to achieve the same results or add exhaust cams to ours?

You already have all the exhaust cams you can have. It's not that simple. It's computer controlled. Hit up google. There is plenty of info on how it works.

Horsepower is increased but torque increase is minimal at best and that is the number that is most important in truck applications. I don't crave more horsepower. I would just like the fuel efficiency that dual vvti brings.

I would think a supercharger would be A LOT easier and cheaper.

OP, what is it that you are trying to accomplish? Just add more horsepower?

The swap is possible. The engine will likely drop right into place. Getting the computer to work would take some doing, but this can be handled as well.

I cannot imagine it being a very cost effective swap. Maybe 5 grand for a used engine, installed and the computer work to get all the systems playing nice with one another. Possibly more, possibly less if you can do it all yourself. This for 34 horsepower (236 Tacoma vs 270 4Runner)? For that money, I would get a supercharger, but I am a bit lazy.

Thought about this right after I posted lol but yea a supercharger would definitely be the way to go for increased performance
