07 taco door unlocking issue

Ok - I've searched to no avail to find an answer about this, so here goes. I bought a viper remote start system and had it installed. However, the dealer, nor I could figure out why when the door is locked with the switch, by hand, and then closed, that the key fob will not unlock the door. Also, I noticed that if I sit in the truck, open the door, lock it (using the switch), but stay inside the truck, I can not then unlock the door using the switch (once closed). Is this some sort of safety feature that I need to disable?
