I had to replace the exhaust ( rotted out) and bought the "exact fit" Bosal muffler p/n BO294239

The new muffler was partially OK...The front hangers on it lined up exactly with the hanger rods on the chassis ...the PROBLEM is the rear part was a bit too long by about a foot or so, and the rear hanger is not near the rear hanger attached to the chassis...and the muffler is actually touching and rubbing against the spare tire mounted under the bed.

The next problem I have is that the loud exhaust noise is still there, so I suspect that the cayalytic converter may also have a rot hole in it...although I can't see any exhaust or feel any leak...

I ordered a bosal exact fit catalytic convertier ( p/n

099-1642 ). However, when I first placed it next to the existing catalytic converter, it is about 4 to 6 inches shorter - which would shift the existing new bosal muffler forward , and the hangers on the front of the muffer would now no longer line up with the hangers attached to the chassis . Also, if I recall correctly, the catalytic converter hangers on the new unit would also have a line up problem.

so I'm looking for advice - can the chassis hangers be removed and new ones installed or swapped around ( It looks like there may be holes provided in the chassis near where the new hangers would want to be)...and the hangers near the front muffler area look like thay could maybe be rotated 180 degrees ( if I can get them out of the chassis), and possibly line up that way.

The postive thing or effect by using the new shorter bosal "exact fit" catalytic converter and shifting the muffler forward the 4 or 6 inches, is that now the rear part of the muffler may then not ride against the spare tire, and may line up with the rear-most hanger.

I guess the "exact fit" isn't so exact....

    Any advice and tips appreciated....
