listen this is what you need to do and i cant believe no one on here has said it yet. take the headlights out wet sand them. all it is that is peeling is a protective clear film. once you wet sand them polish them. go to your local auto parts store and sylvania makes a headlight restore kit or something. it works i have done it to previous vechicles that the clear on the headlight is chipping off. im getting ready to do it to my truck bcz mine is a little worse then yours.

The problem isn't with Toyota, it is when the UAW in America started to assemble them. When they were made and put together in Japan, there were no problems. I have a friend who had a 1984 Toyota pick up with 300,000 miles. And in 1998 it threw a rod through the engine. Japan replaced the whole engine, and stated it was not designed to have this problem. So that in my mind is the problem. UAW just don't give a shit, all they care about is their Union Contracts and wages. People used to say when you had a problem with your American car, " That you probably bought a car built on a Monday or Friday.'' It took them 7 years to put the 4 leaf pack on for the American people. Toyota does not give a shit about their quality anymore.

    neglect, mostly.
gonna stay out of the little convo posted above, but OP i wouldn't sweat it. granted i don't keep the inside or outside of my truck particularly clean, but functionally it will be fine i suspect. and any fine grit sandpaper and headlight cleaning kit will fix it up if it gets worse.

Capt, If you don't like your truck why don't you get rid of it and go buy something you will be happy with? If your not happy because your truck has problems, Im afraid your never going to be happy with your truck no matter who makes it.

I disagree. While your solution is viable, it ignores the face that Toyota should replace defective parts while it is under warranty. If you sand the protective layer off and then buff you will have nice looking lights, but the protective layer will be gone. You seriously need to make Toyota replace those.

I have been thinking that but its a lease (i own the company) and its hard to get out a lease only one year in it would cost me money. about happy with product i owned a 2005 nissan titan and was very happy with that (sold it after it have a $15000 front end accident). i would have bought another one but we moved farther from work and the better gas millage on the tacoma was appealing to me (titan was a pig). i think who ever said moving the manufacturing and design from japan hit the nail on the head. i have a friend with an old gen 1 and he loves the truck it has never given him any grief and it has no rust and we live in the same city and travel about the same distance to work. what will this truck look like and how will it function in 3 years when the lease is up?

I am sorry i will leave this thread alone i feel like i did some hijacking. all i am trying to say is why is it the opps problem? this should be fixed by toyota not with some sanding.

My 2010 is doing the same thing. I'm only 2k miles over my bumper to bumper warranty :/ If it's under warranty, you should bitch until they fix it. If not, maybe you could sand, CLEARCOAT and polish? Maybe the clearcoat will have the same protective effect on the lights and help them to not fade. Any thoughts? I might do this to mine soon when it gets a little worse.

BTW, I am in Texas. Hot hot heat.
