If you own 2005-2012 Toyota Tacoma with a five speed manual transmission, and you have noticed that your clutch pedal is slow to return to the released position, you might want to contact your Toyota dealer’s service department to have it replaced.

Is your clutch pedal slow to return in your 2005-12 Toyota Tacoma? If so, there is a fix out now.

In an August 2012 Technical Service Bulletin (TSB#: T-SB-0128-12), dealers were notified that the clutch pedal can be slow to return to the released position in Toyota Tacoma trucks that were manufactured during this time.
The TSB affects all 2005-2012 Tacoma trucks produced before the following Production Change Effective VINs: 5TFNX4CN#CX010902, 5TFTX4CN#CX014249, 5TFPX4EN#CX009048, and 5TFUX4EN#CX011321.
    Here is the TSB process:
Step 1: The replacement part number for the clutch release cylinder is 31470-35191. Clutch fluid (brake fluid) will also be required, and the part number is FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3 or SAE J1703.
Step 2: Remove the clutch release cylinder as per the Technical Information System (TIS) Repair Manual for the appropriate year. For the 2005 Tacoma, it is under the Drivetrain – Clutch – Clutch Release Cylinder: Overhaul section of the manual. For the 2006-2012 Tacoma, it is under the Drivetrain – Clutch – Clutch: Clutch Release Cylinder (for R155/R155F): Removal section of the manual.
Step 3: Remove the clutch release cylinder rubber boot and inspect for corrosion. If corrosion is found, proceed to step 4. If corrosion is not found, this TSB does not apply and continue diagnosis based on the Repair Manual.
Step 4: Replace the clutch release cylinder in reverse order of removal. Refer to TIS Tacoma Repair Manual for the appropriate year under the same section in Step 2, except refer to Installation section instead of Removal.
This replacement is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty, which is in effect for 36,000 miles or 36 months (whichever comes first) and is limited to corrosion on the clutch release cylinder.
Call your local Toyota dealer if you have a vehicle that meets these specifications. Provide them with the part number above to ensure they have the replacement in stock.
