Can you just pull the existing motor and get it to a rebuilder? Did you throw a rod through the block? Your local automotive recycling facility is hooked up to a computer driven parts network, talk to them and they should be able to find you a motor. With the number of taco being wrecked, there should be a glut of motors out there.

Good to hear that you pay for what you get and take responsibility for your actions. Sorry if I came off too harsh. I know if I had a nickle for every stupid thing I did as a young man I could buy some real nice accessories for my truck. ;)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Did it all out throw a rod through the block or is it just knocking?

A lot of people have praised the Chevy 4.3 as a replacement. It's probably cheaper than a toyota engine as well. Depending on your finances an sbc 350 or a diesel would be bad ass. I know you don't want to drop huge chunk tho. What about those Mercedes turbo diesels, I hear they are bullet proof

I looked into doing a Chevy engine swap when my 2.7 gave up the ghost. The conversion parts alone made it prohibitively expensive. It can be done, but just plan on spending a lot of $$$$
